Surface Reconstruction of Water Waves using Thermographic Stereo Imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a system for the surface reconstruction of water waves using shape-from-stereo techniques. Based on two infrared cameras operating in the 3 − 5 μm wavelength range, the system acquires thermographic image sequences of the water surface with high temporal resolution. Due to the optical properties of water, imaging in this region of the infrared spectrum is well suited for stereo matching, as it avoids or reduces the problems associated with transparency, specular reflections, and lack of texture at visible wavelengths. Results are presented for image sequences obtained during experiments at the University of Heidelberg’s wind-wave flume Aeolotron together with an assessment of the achieved reconstruction accuracy.

متن کاملStereo Reconstruction of the Epicardium for Optical Fluorescence Imaging
Optical imaging using voltage-sensitive fluorescence dye can record cardiac electrical activity with sub-millimeter resolution that is unattainable with conventional electrode systems. The interpretations of activation recordings are often limited by the two-dimensionality of the maps obtained from the 2D optical images, and little has been done to overcome this limitation. We present a novel m...
متن کاملWeak Statistical Constraints for Variational Stereo Imaging of Oceanic Waves
We develop an observational technique for the stereoscopic reconstruction of the wave form of oceanic sea states via a variational stereo method. In the context of active surfaces, the shape and radiance of the wave surface are obtained as minimizers of an energy functional that combines image observations and smoothness priors. To obey the quasi Gaussianity of oceanic waves observed in nature,...
متن کاملThermographic Imaging of Defects in Anisotropic Composites
Composite materials are of increasing interest to the aerospace industry as a result of their weight versus performance characteristics. One of the disadvantages of composites is the high cost of fabrication and post inspection with conventional ultrasonic scanning systems. The high cost of inspection is driven by the need for scanning systems which can follow large curve surfaces. Additionally...
متن کاملSurface Reconstruction of Ancient Water Storage Systems An Approach for Sparse 3D Sonar Scans and Fused Stereo Images
This work presents a new approach to reconstructing surfaces of underwater structures from stereo images and sonar scans collected with a micro-ROV on the islands of Malta and Gozo. Using a limited sensor load, sonar and small GoPro Hero2 cameras, the micro-ROV is able to explore small hard to reach water systems and gather data. Our algorithm is able to reconstruct geometric models of explored...
